Department of Environment and Geography - Environmental Science
Dr Paul Hesse - Undergraduate Teaching
With other members of the Environmental Science Discipline, I teach in several units taken by students studying for a major in Environmental Earth Science, Physical Geography, Environmental Management or Biology.
These units include -
- The Planet Earth (GEOS112) First year unit looking at the Earth and its rock cycle, water cycle, carbon cycle, erosion cycle and evolution, how they function and interact as the Earth System.
- Earth Surface Processes (ENVE266) Second year unit introducing the geomorphic processes which dominate the soils, hillslopes, rivers and coasts of our environment. This unit emphasises field teaching and understanding of linkages crucial to applied environmental management.
- Environmental Change (ENVE337) Third year unit investigating processes of soil formation and management, including soil erosion, degradation and rehabilitation. Skills of soil and sediment description and mapping are taught to meet workplace expectations. Soil development is placed in the context of landscape geomorphic processes and environmental history.
